Foreword
Being in the European Union joining process,
Romania is a country that has viable populations of large carnivores. This
project was initiated in 1999, as one of the firsts LIFE Nature Projects in
Eastern Europe. The project importance at national level is given by its
innovative approaches and solutions that was implemented, a lot of these
having a news character for Romania. Thus, collaborating with the ministries
and with other similar projects, we want to contribute to Romania's efforts
related with biodiversity conservation. At international level, the project
participates in the frame of regional initiatives (The Carpathians
Ecoregion, The Danube-Carpathians Program), as well as to European biodiversity
conservations initiatives (Large Carnivores Initiative for Europe).
